I AM BUYING A HOUSE WITH A STOVE ALREADY FITTED WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE?
My advice would be as HETAS say. You should get a certificate of compliance with the purchase documents. This has been the case for many years now. This will tell you who fitted the stove and if the chimney is lined. You should check if the chimney has been swept and the stove looked over recently, components inside the stove may need changing. Take a look inside the stove at the bricks and baffle / throat plate condition. The certificate should come from your solicitor. The time to find out if the stove is correctly fitted is before you buy the house NOT AFTERWARDS, it can be expensive to put right. I have been to a lot of houses where I have had to give people bad news about the stove fit. Get hold of the stove manual and read it before using the stove. If you have not been passed the manual by the previous house owner then very often it can be downloaded as a PDF from the stove manufacturers website. The manual will have all the part numbers for any new components you require. Very often you can order the parts directly from the stove manufacturer.
