Installing a stone fire surround what HETAS etc, say.
Updated: May 16, 2018
When fitting a stone fire surround onto the wall a lot of fitters stick the surround to the wall with adhesive. This has never been good practice and as a result of incidents involving them falling off the wall the situation was clarified some years ago. Fatality's have occurred as a result of a falling surround hitting children. The surround must always be fixed to the wall in various locations, not stuck to the wall. The correct procedure is to hack off the render and plaster on the chimney breast. Then attach the surround to the wall with stainless brackets then bury it in the wall with render before plastering the chimney breast.
